Overview of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

According to legend, this tropical paradise was struck by a typhoon, a massive storm that left ships, surfboards, fishing gear and other debris scattered around the area. At least, that’s the theme of this Orlando water park, which opened in 1989 as part of Walt Disney World® Resort. Today, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon operates in every season and is home to 11 major attractions, including North America’s largest wave pool, thrilling coaster-like raft rides, kid-friendly water playgrounds and more. The water is heated, making it warm and comfortable any time of year.

Can’t-Miss Attractions

Crush ‘n’ Gusher

Take the plunge on this 400-foot-long tube slide, one of the park’s signature attractions. Enter an abandoned fruit processing plant and choose from three “fruit chutes”—the Pineapple Plunger, Coconut Crusher or Banana Blaster. Then, get ready for a wild ride with plenty of surprises.

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

Yes, you can really body surf in this enormous wave pool! Paddle out and listen for the sound of the “sonic boom” that means a cresting wave is heading your way. There are continuous waves up to six feet tall every 90 seconds, and you can check the chalkboard near the edge of the beach for the wave schedule.

Castaway Creek

Nestle in your inner tube and relax as you float down this scenic lazy river. Castaway Creek circles around the entire water park, so it’s a great way to get the lay of the land, and you’ll also come across shady grottoes, waterfalls, rainforest landscapes and overhead rope bridges on your gentle journey.

Tips for Visiting

Reserve premium beach chair space, private patios and cabanas in advance.

Turn Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon into your personal oasis. Reserve a Beachcomber Shack stocked with towels, cushioned seating for six to eight Guests, souvenir refillable mugs, a cooler and more. Or snag some shade under a Typhoon Lagoon Umbrella that comes with two lounge chairs, two beach chairs, a drink table and towels. Both options are limited, so advance reservations are recommended. Call ahead to save your spot.

Take advantage of complimentary parking.

Planning on driving to the park? Enjoy complimentary standard parking available for all Guests.

Be sure to follow the dress code.

As you pack for paradise, keep in mind Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has a dress code. For safety reasons, swimwear with buckles, rivets, zippers or exposed metal is not allowed. And no jeans or wetsuits on select attractions. For diaper-age swimmers, suit up with plastic pants or swim diapers in pool areas. You can wear water shoes around the park and on most attractions (Cast Members will let you know if you need to remove your shoes to ride a particular attraction).

Pick up a complimentary life jacket.

Life jackets aren’t mandatory, but swimmers who would feel more comfortable with one can pick one up for free before taking the plunge. Find complimentary life jackets on self-serve racks throughout the park.

You can bring your own cooler.

You might be wondering: can you bring food into Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon? If you like to be extra-prepared, you can pack your own drinks and snacks. Small coolers are allowed, with no loose ice, dry ice, glass bottles or alcohol. Find a cooler tote featuring some favorite Characters at DisneyStore.com, and remember to use your Disney Visa Card for shopping savings.2 Toss in some re-usable ice packs and you’re ready to go.

Rent a towel or locker if needed.

Soak up the sun and stay dry between your wild water rides. Head over to High ‘N Dry Rentals to safely stow your belongings in a locker or rent a towel for $2 (subject to change without notice).

Check the schedule as you plan your vacation.

Dive in and start planning your trip. Although the park is open in every season, keep in mind, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon briefly closes annually for refurbishment, so be sure to check the website and make sure your dates are all clear.
