DIY: Disney Ornaments

This holiday season, deck your tree with a little more Disney and create three sparkling DIY ornaments themed after Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Follow these simple steps to create an elegant Mickey Mouse tree snow globe ornament, a customizable Disney Parks-inspired keepsake ornament and a classic Minnie Mouse wreath ornament.

Mickey Mouse Tree Snow Globe Ornament

Bottle brush mini trees are accented with golden beads crafted in the shape of Mickey Mouse heads to create a picturesque snow globe scene. Add gold gems and a glitter craft paper pedestal for an ornament that dazzles!

Materials Needed:

  • Adhesive spray glue
  • Hot glue gun and glue stick(s)
  • Small paint brush
  • Mini bottle brush trees (various sizes)
  • Round ornament, open in the back
  • Red glitter craft paper
  • Gold glitter ribbon
  • Gold beads, various sizes
  • Gold gems, various shapes and sizes
  • Fake snow
  • Mini presents, various sizes
Materials

Instructions:

1. Gather all materials.
2. Sprinkle fake snow on each of the trees, if desired, to add a winter wonderland touch.
3. Place and hot glue beads into groups of three, creating small Mickey Mouse-shaped beads. Place these all over the trees as tiny ornaments with hot glue. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.
4. Place and hot glue gold gems on the trees as tiny ornaments to complement the Mickey Mouse-shaped beads. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.
5. Utilizing the open back of the ornament, place a layer of fake snow at the base of the ornament, securing with adhesive spray glue or hot glue as needed. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.
6. Once fake snow is set, working from the front of the inside of the ornament toward the back, hot glue small trees and various-sized mini presents to the bottom of the ornament. Place the presents around the base of the trees, taking care to place some in the foreground of your ornament, securing them with hot glue as needed. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.

8. Secure a piece of red glitter craft paper around the base of the ornament to create a mock pedestal for the “snow globe.”
9. Create a scalloped edge pattern around the top of the ornament using glue on a small paintbrush and then layer fake snow on top to create a snowy flocking.
10. String the gold ribbon through the top of the ornament and hang it on your tree to enjoy!

Disney Parks-Inspired Keepsake Ornament

Materials Needed:

  • Liquid glue
  • Hot glue gun and glue stick(s)
  • Small paintbrush (to use with liquid glue)
  • Fake snow
  • Gold ornament, large
  • Gold ornaments, small
  • White chalk marker
  • Gold glitter vinyl
  • Electronic cutting machine or cutting knife
  • Red bow
  • Gold glitter ribbon

Instructions:

1. Gather all materials. Ensure there is adult supervision for using sharp objects and a hot glue gun in this DIY.
2. Take the large gold ornament to use as a base.
3. Use this printable castle template with an electronic cutting machine or a cutting knife, to create a castle on gold glitter, adhesive-backed vinyl. Ensure there is adult supervision for using either of these sharp objects. Carefully adhere the castle vinyl to the ornament.

4. Use a white chalk marker to write your family name and the year, if desired, on the front of the ornament.
5. Using liquid glue and a small brush, paint the tops of the two smaller ornaments and cover with fake snow or glitter.
6. Once dry, use hot glue to adhere the smaller gold ornaments to the left and right of the base ornament, creating Mickey Mouse ears. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.
7. For the finishing touch, add a red bow between the ears using hot glue. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.
8. String gold ribbon through the top of the base ornament and hang on the tree to display your completed, personalized Mickey Mouse ornament!

Minnie Mouse Wreath Ornament

A single Minnie Mouse bead accent brings just a touch of Disney to this elegant and naturally wintry ornament. The trick to this craft is in paying attention to the minute details, from arranging the orientation and length of the evergreen to maintaining a light touch when it comes to layering coats of spray-on fake snow.

Materials Needed:

  • Small wooden wreath
  • Floral wire
  • Fake evergreen, various textures
  • Gold beads, various sizes
  • Gold glitter ribbon
  • Hot glue gun and glue stick(s)
  • Red miniature bow bead
  • Spray-on fake snow

Instructions:

1. Gather all materials.
2. Secure two small bundles of evergreen together with floral wire, trimming as needed so each piece is at a different height.
3. Add spray-on fake snow to the branches if desired.
4. Attach evergreen bundles with floral wire to the wooden wreath. Position one bundle facing up and the other bundle facing down on the right side of the ring.

5. Take two smaller beads and hot glue them to the left and right of a larger bead to create a Minnie Mouse-shaped bead. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.
6. Hot glue the tiny red bow bead to the top of the Minnie Mouse bead. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.
7. In the center of the two evergreen bundles, hot glue and secure the completed Minnie Mouse bead. Ensure there is adult supervision for using hot glue.
8. String gold ribbon through the top of the wreath and hang on your tree for all to admire!
