Can’t wait to see the film? Here are five fun facts about Luca to tide you over!

  1. 1. Luca transports you to the Italian Riviera.

Experience Italy in a new way (or for the very first time) with friends Luca and Alberto. The film takes place in a gorgeous seaside village on the Italian Riviera, based on director Enrico Casarosa’s own childhood, and is filled with pasta, gelato and scooter rides. Pixar artists took several trips to Italy to absorb and capture its vibrant spirit.

  1. 2. A different world exists under the sea.

Fans of Ariel know all about mythical creatures living below the water. But unlike the world of mermaids, Luca explores what it’s like to be a sea monster—and how not to get caught when exploring on dry land. Luca and Alberto have to be careful to conceal their true identities.

  2. 3. Alberto is named after Casarosa’s own childhood best friend.

The director was inspired by his own BFF, who he met in Genoa when he was 11 years old. And much like the Characters in the film, they had their own adventure-filled summers and occasionally got into some trouble. Casarosa said those experiences helped him grow up and spurred him to tell a similar coming-of-age tale.

  1. 4. The director also drew inspiration from other iconic filmmakers.

Casarosa re-watched films that have influenced him as he worked on Luca. Be on the lookout to see how he paid homage to their styles.

  2. 5. This film features some familiar voices.

Luca’s cast includes voice actors you may recognize, such as Maya Rudolph and Jim Gaffigan, who play Luca’s mom Daniela and dad Lorenzo. Jacob Tremblay plays the titular role, alongside Jack Dylan Grazer as Alberto. Keep an ear out for John Ratzenberger—known for Pixar roles such as Hamm in Toy Story, Mack in Cars and more—and see if you can pick out which Character has his voice.

With the release of Luca, this is going to be a summer to remember for Disney and Pixar fans. Already a fan? Treat yourself or someone you love to a keepsake inspired by the film. Use your Disney Visa Card to save 10% on Luca favorites from Disney store and shopDisney.com!0
