Sleeping Beauty Castle
-
“Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle tells a story about snow,” Duffy explains. The turrets of the Castle are covered in snow and embedded with around 215,000 lights. Overall, there are thousands more lights on the structure, including glistening icicles that hang from the Castle eaves and colorful strands of traditional Christmas lights. Be sure to snap a picture with the Castle in the background for a holiday memory! “Subtle lighting and projections illuminate the Castle during the Believe in Holiday Magic fireworks show and ‘snow’ falls gently on Main Street, U.S.A.” By the way, you can enjoy great views of the fireworks from Main Street, U.S.A., Rivers of America and “it’s a small world” plaza.

“it’s a small world” Holiday
-
Children and the holidays go together like cocoa and cookies. What better place to experience the wonder and joy than in “it’s a small world”? More than 60,000 lights sparkle on the façade and approximately 250,000 lights twinkle on the landscaping. Installing the décor takes about four weeks of teams working through the night. Merry music plays inside where the world’s children are costumed for the holidays and thousands of feet of garland adorn the interior along with festive props.
Make sure you’re at the “it’s a small world” plaza during the evening where every 15 minutes or so, the façade comes to brilliant life with projected images dancing and marching to a lively Christmas song medley. “it’s a small world” was the very first attraction to receive a holiday overlay at the Disneyland® Resort, and its enthusiastic reception by Guests has inspired all that has followed since.

Cars Land
-
We adore Cars Land at Disney California Adventure® Park for its sense of humor all year, but the creative fun is especially evident during the holidays! Lightning McQueen and his pals have gone all out to decorate Radiator Springs in their own unique way. Garlands of green air filters and holiday wreaths formed by giant whitewall tires are just the start. The Cars have even sculpted their version of a snowman, a 7-foot Snowy the Snow Car, and created custom Christmas trees. Mater’s tree is made from junk and Flo’s 9-foot tree consists of stacked oil cans. There’s more of course, but we don’t want to spoil the surprise.

Haunted Mansion Holiday
-
Since 2001, the Haunted Mansion Holiday, inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, has invited Jack Skellington and his crew to bring their own brand of celebration to the attraction. “It’s a unique combination of the storytelling from the film and the storytelling of the attraction, not to mention a clever bridge between Halloween and Christmas,” Duffy says. While you’re experiencing the “scariment” inside, be sure to look for the gingerbread house in the ballroom scene. “It is different every year,” Duffy says. “We start thinking about the theme for it almost six months in advance and it takes weeks to create.”
